Washington surges to No. 1 class for ’17 with Mamoudou Diarra

Though the recruiting cycle in the 2017 class is still very early, having tremendous success is still nothing to overlook. While naysayers will comment on the poor recent NCAA tournament appearance history of Washington, that didn’t stopped the Huskies from landing 6′-9″ forward Mamoudou Diarra, in news first reported by 247Sports.

The addition of Diarra gives Washington the No. 1 class currently in the 2017 recruiting cycle, overtaking Auburn.

Diarra, an athletic post originally from Mali, joins a star-studded class with No. 1 overall player candidate Michael Porter, scoring wing Jaylen Nowell from Seattle, and point guard Blake Harris of North Carolina. After Porter, Nowell is a consensus top-50 prospect, while Diarra and Harris will both likely compete for top-150 status nationally.

As if the 2017 class wasn’t enough, Porter’s young brother Jontay Porter is also waiting in the wings after two more high school seasons.

While things are constantly changing on the recruiting trail, it’s easy to see this Washington class remaining prominent nationally, even as other programs add more talent and gain more national recruits.
