It’s crunch time on the college basketball recruiting trail – with three days left for your favorite college basketball program to lock up their future stars, starters, role players or transfers, as the case may be.
There’s still some hope for programs attempting to piece together their 2012 recruiting classes, with some solid JC and underrated talent available. It’s less certain for schools in the hunt for Top 100 caliber prospects, as by our count, only 20 of the original Top 100 list remains uncommitted as of Sunday evening.
There’s still plenty of room for teams to improve recruiting class rankings, as 13 of the 20 players are Top 50 players - conceivably contributors to next year’s college basketball scene. Many of the remaining uncommitted players are considering the same schools, so the race will really be to the final minute for several programs, though it could stretch out six more months for players that choose not to sign in the early period.
Some of these players are certain to wait until the regular signing period in April, but some have also stated that they’ll make a decision in the early signing period. Check out the handy table we’ve created, which breaks down the recruitment of the remaining uncommitted Top 100 talents.
|Pos||Name||Pos||High School||Considering||Recruitment Notes|
|Shabazz Muhammad||G||Bishop Gorman (NV)||KY, USC, UCLA, Duke, TX A&M, Kansas||Not expected to sign early, the top 2012 in the land will have a drawn out recruiting process. Some believe UCLA leads.
|Anthony Bennett||F||Findlay Prep (NV)||UNLV, WA, OR, UConn, WVU, Pitt, Ohio State, KY, FL||Also not thought to be an early signee, Bennett will be a monster for whoever gets him. He's a potential one and done player due to his explosiveness.
|Jarnell Stokes||F||Southwind (TN)||AR, Memphis, FL, KY, TN.||Originally thought to be a Memphis/Arkansas race, Kentucky is now a player as of last week.
|Gary Harris||G||Hamilton Southeastern (IN)||Mich St., IN, Purdue, KY||Sparty got Harris' last trip, and the football star is expected to make a decision and sign early. There are plenty of thoughts on who leads, but of unknown validity.
|Devonta Pollard||F||Kemper County (MS)||Miss St, AL, Mizzou, G-Town, TX, KY, Marquette||Pollard has been playing football and is expected to be a regular period signee. Many think he'll end up in the SEC.
|Alex Poythress||F||Northeast (TN)||Vandy, FL, KY, Memphis||Vanderbilt started in on his recruitment the earlies, but Memphis and Kentucky are pushing hard.
|Amile Jefferson||F||Friends Central (PA)||Temple, Villanova, KY, Stanford, NC State, MD, Ohio State, UConn||There is lots of buzz regarding NC State and Jefferson, but the reality is that his recruitment is anybody's guess right now.
|Tony Parker||C||Miller Grove (GA)||Duke, UCLA, GA, Ohio State, Memphis||Word is that Duke wants Parker bad, but the thick center is a high priority for all the schools involved in his recruitment.
|Robert Carter||F||Shiloh (GA)||GA, GA Tech, FL, FL State, KY, MD||The thought is that it will be tough to get Carter out of his home state, as he's a priority for both Georgia and Georgia Tech.
|Shaquille Goodwin||F||Southwest DeKalb (GA)||UCLA, Memphis, GA, AZ, FL.||The freak athlete has maintained he wants to play football in college, and be a dual sport athlete. UCLA has been an unofficial favorite.
|Torian Graham||G||Arlington Country Day (FL)||MD, Baylor, FL State.||A well-traveled wing and former NC State commit, Graham has a club connection to Maryland assistant coach Dalonte Hill.
|Robert Upshaw||C||San Joaquin Memorial (CA)||Fresno State, G-Town, KS St., Louisville||A large true post, Upshaw's recruitment has been pretty quiet and he'll provide a presence wherever he ends up.
|Winston Shepard||F||Findlay Prep (NV)||NM, SD St, UNLV, UTEP, OK St||Indications are that Shepard will be a highly-valued regular period signee. Tremendous upside and athleticism.
|Savon Goodman||F||Constitution (PA)||Numerous||The former Villanova commit, Goodman has heard from numerous high-major programs, but it's unclear who is on his short list right now.
|Andrew White||G||The Miller School (VA)||G-Town, KS, NC State, Louisville, TX, Richmond, others.||White has a huge amount of offers on the table, and is a high priority for several of the schools involved. Some think he's a must get for Kansas.
|Nino Jackson||G||Ardmore (OK)||KS||A tremendous athlete, Jackson is expected by some to be a JC player next year. He was rarely seen on the spring and summer circuit.
|Tyrone Wallace||G||Bakersfield (CA)||Cal, Colo.||If Wallace were to commit to Colorado, it would perhaps be the Buffaloes first time in Top 25 recruiting class rankings. He'd also be a key recruit for Cal, which struck out on Dominic Artis.
|Wannah Bail||F||Trent School (TX)||Numerous||At one time Bail was set to commit with G Michael Carey, but it didn't happen. At that time, Oregon, Houston and Texas Tech were the finalists, but who knows now?
|Charles Mitchell||F||Wheeler (GA)||Numerous||The solid post player has offers from the SEC, Big East, Big Ten, ACC and elsewhere.
|Zena Edosomwan||F||Harvard-Westlake (CA)||USC, Cal, Harvard, WA, TX.||The power player took a final trip to Washington, and is a huge priority for the three Pac-12 schools. Rebounders and players with his toughness are far and few between.
