The Arizona Wildcats landed a verbal commitment from 6′-4″ junior guard Justin Simon of Temecula Valley (CA) on Tuesday, one of the top-25 prospects nationally in the 2015 class.
Simon is the second top-25 prospect in the junior class to commit to Arizona, as fellow Californian Tyler Dorsey made a commitment several months ago. Both players are essentially capable of playing in both guard slots, although Simon arguably has more lead guard instincts, while Dorsey can be considered the better scorer.
Simon will play for San Diego-based Gamepoint on the adidas circuit this spring and summer. He was also named on Monday as one of the prospects selected to compete for a slot on the USA Basketball U18 team.
As a junior, Simon averaged 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists per game. He drew scholarship offers from most of college basketball’s blue bloods during his junior year of high school. Assuming he continues to improve and refine his point guard skills, he is among the top 3 to 5 point guard prospects nationally.
The addition of Simon to go with Dorsey is clearly a win, and puts Arizona in position to have yet another top-10 caliber recruiting class.
