Third time a charm for Oregon State, JaQuori McLaughlin

Former Washington and Oregon State commitment JaQuori McLaughlin, a 6′-3″ combo guard from Peninsula (WA) is back in the Beavers’ good graces as he announced his verbal pledge, spurning Utah and Wisconsin.

McLaughlin’s previous commitment to Oregon State came under the former coaching staff headed by Craig Robinson. McLaughlin announced his decision via Twitter.

McLaughlin reportedly averaged 23 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists as a junior, and is ranked as a top 100 player nationally by virtually all sources. The addition of McLaughlin to head coach Wayne Tinkle’s second class at Oregon State is a strong one, considering they had two consensus top 100 players in 2015 (although each was the son of a member of the coaching staff), and an addition two top 150 prospects in the haul.

The departure of Gary Payton II after this season should open up minutes at lead guard for Oregon State. If existing roster players have a down year, it’s fair to assume McLaughlin will get a crack to play serious minutes right away.

Archbishop Mitty (CA) big man Ben Kone was a previous pledge to the Beavers in the class.
