Superb sophomore Rechon Black to North Carolina

North Carolina is way ahead of the game in the 2018 class, as they landed a verbal commitment from 6′-7″ guard Rechon Black of Concord (NC) on Friday.

There’s no doubt it’s extremely early, but Black’s promising start to high school has resulted in him being ranked as the No. 10 prospect nationally in the 2018 class.

The Tar Heels backcourt looks nothing short of stacked in the near future, with 2017 lead guard prospect Jalek Felton, also verbally committed to playing college basketball in Chapel Hill.

With regard to Black, though, he’s drawn early comparisons to Penny Hardaway for his prodigious size and ability to exploit his size to his advantage. Nicknamed “Leaky,” Black already had ACC programs like Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, and Clemson also heavily pursuing him.

Black will still have 2 and a half years to develop in high school before he arrives at UNC, but if the early returns are any indication he could be a special prospect for the staff in Chapel Hill.
