SoCal point guard Tra Holder pops for ASU

The Arizona State Sun Devils snared a verbal commitment from 6′-2″ point guard Tra Holder on Friday evening, according to his travel basketball coach Ryan Silver.

Holder was on an unofficial trip to campus, and is the third pledge the Sun Devils’ 2014 class. He joins shooting guard Kodi Justice and forward Connor MacDougall in the recruiting class at Arizona State. Holder is the first out of state player in the class, as Justice and MacDougall are in-state standouts.

With a host of other scholarship offers, including from the Florida State Seminoles and San Diego State, and has reportedly starred for Pangos Elite on the spring circuit thus far.

Holder could have big shoes to fill when he steps on campus, as incoming sophomore Jahii Carson is expected to have to make the decision again about whether he’ll enter the NBA draft. Should Carson star again as a sophomore, Holder could have to make a major impact as a freshman.

As a junior at Brentwood, Holder reportedly averaged 22 points and dished 5 assists per game. A lead guard with good size and court vision. He’ll set the table for others but can also score. His potential cohort in the backcourt Justice is a good outside shooter, and they could form a nice combination going forward.

For those fans that wish college basketball was a year-round sport, the College Basketball Newcomers Guide paperback and Kindle book previews the incoming recruits for every team nationally. There’s no need to wait until Fall to learn about the new names in college basketball that will be starring on the hardwood.
