With the announcement earlier in the week that Texas Tech added former Mississippi State signee Josh Gray to their 2012 recruiting class, the Red Raiders are expected to have finalized their 2012 class. Gray is now one of nine known commitments or signings, in coach Billy Gillispie’s first complete recruiting effort as head man for the Red Raiders.
Given last year’s roster and the nine newcomers, there are 19 players that could be on the team next year. There is likely to be some combination of returning players transferring and newcomers either being ineligible, or not matriculating. Additionally, one of the newcomers could turn out to be a walk-on. At this point, it’s a crap shoot as to who will actually be on the roster at Texas Tech next season.
Gray is a dynamic, scoring point that signed under Rick Stansbury at Mississippi State. With Stansbury out of the picture for Rick Ray, Gray reconsidered his recruitment.
Texas Tech holds two commitments from junior college point guards, Daylen Robinson and Jamal Williams. It’s unclear how those players will figure into next year’s picture with Gray.
