Oregon nabs SoCal big with NBA bloodlines

On Saturday, Oregon gained their third top 100 verbal commitment in the 2016 class as Mater Dei (CA) center M.J. Cage picked the Ducks over a host of high-major offers.

The addition of Cage means Oregon likely has its best recruiting class to date in the Dana Altman-era in the mix. Cage joins Seattle-area forward Keith Smith and top 50 in-state point guard Payton Pritchard in what is surely an impressive haul so far.

The Oregon program has more or less cobbled together a front court in recent years and nabbing Cage means they have a strong young big man to go with current freshman Trevor Manuel, who also has high promise.

Cage’s father Michael was a long-time NBA post and his son has steadily improved over the last couple years.

Early on in Eugene, Altman focused on  transfers and junior college players to bolster his roster. The last two classes buck that trend, a provide a terrific base for continued NCAA tournament appearances going forward.
