Kansas gets on the board for ’16 with AZ big man

The Kansas Jayhawks landed their first verbal commitment for the 2016 recruiting cycle on Saturday, as 6′-9″ power forward Mitch Lightfoot of Gilbert Christian (AZ) announced his pledge.

Lightfoot reportedly popped for Kansas over in-state Arizona, along with Pac-12 programs Stanford and Utah, as well as St. John’s. As a junior, Lightfoot was committed to New Mexico. He rates as a borderline top 100 player nationally.

Kansas has three senior big men on the roster, and Lightfoot projects as a four year program player who can be brought along slowly. Given the way the future roster maps out, Lightfoot could challenge to start as a junior.

Lightfoot reportedly averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds per game as a junior. He is considered the top high school prospect in Arizona.
