In-state forward Lucas Meikle commits to Gonzaga

Gonzaga landed a verbal commitment on Friday, according to the Seattle Times. 6′-8″ forward Lucas Meikle, a 2013 prospect, pledged to the Bulldogs.

The in-state prospect from Bellarmine Prep (WA) plays on the grassroots circuit for Pioneer Technologies, a Washington-based AAU team. According to ZagsReport, Meikle was hearing from Washington, Washington State, Seattle, California, Boise State and Pennsylvania. Gonzaga tendered his first scholarship offer. He has been described as a big man with shooting touch.

Gonzaga has yet to land a prospect in the 2012 class, but is believed to be a finalist for Przemek Karnowski, a talented 7’0″ center from Poland that was on campus last week. He’s said to be down to Cal and Gonzaga. He would be a huge addition, literally and figuratively as the Zags have at least four open spots they could fill for next year.

Gonzaga is still on the trail to fill out the 2012 class, but a start to the 2013 class is a positive sign.
