Hoopniks Terrific 30, presented by Krossover (2-4-13)

The anticipated showdown between two top-5 ranked teams from last week’s rankings wasn’t exactly as planned, as last week’s No. 2 St. Benedict’s Prep (NJ) took some of the luster off of their game against previously No. 5 ranked St. Anthony (NJ), by losing earlier in the week to Blair Academy (NJ). St. Benedict’s Prep recovered admirably, though, has to be credited with a major rebound in breaking an 83 game win streak in their victory over the Friars.

The same almost happened to No. 1 Findlay Prep (NV), which was almost defeated by an opponent from Sin City, Desert Pines (NV), in the Penny Hardaway Classic. The game went down to the wire, before Findlay Prep retained its top slot in a narrow victory,

Two powerhouse programs also drop in the rankings due to surprising losses, as Whitney Young (IL) and Oak Hill Academy (VA) each lost games during the week. As a result, numerous squads continue to climb the rankings, most notably new No. 4 Prime Prep (TX), which remains undefeated but does not have the key wins that No. 2 Montverde Academy (FL) and No. 3 Lone Peak (UT) has. Still, Prime Prep is worth watching as a national title contender, as a first year school.

While they aren’t even the No. 1 seed in the Chicago Public League playoffs, No. 5 Simeon (IL) appears to be in full gear and has the opportunity to accrue some quality victories as they will face some extremely strong regional and state teams in their quest for another Illinois title.
