Heady Guard Tyus Jones Showcases Lead Guard Skills

When one considers that incoming sophomore Tyus Jones, a 6’-1”, 171 pound point guard from Apple Valley (MN) has already played two seasons of high school varsity basketball, his precociousness at the lead guard spot makes a bit more sense. Jones was outstanding in USA Basketball tryouts, demonstrating that he is a true point guard with the ability to make his teammates better. Jones made the final roster, and will battle Illinois prospect Larry Austin for the right to start.
Jones is considered the most complete 2014 guard in the country, and as a student of the game, he cited NBA influences from Rajon Rondo, Chris Paul, Derrick Rose and Deron Williams. With only a brief week of practices to insert an offense and define roles, there’s little doubt that Jones’ will make the coaching staff’s job easier with his ability to execute on offense.
His early offers include Minnesota and Iowa, but Jones told Hoopniks.com that Ohio State, Michigan State, North Carolina, Clemson, Arizona and UCLA were all schools he is currently considering. Expect the home-state Gophers to make him a huge recruiting priority.
