German forward Mortiz Wagner declares Michigan

Only a handful of college basketball programs didn’t have a verbal commitment or signing for the 2015-2016 season going into Sunday, and now there’s one less school on that list. 6′-9″ forward Moritz Wagner of Germany announced he would join the Michigan Wolverines for next season, via his Twitter account.

With almost its entire 2014-2015 team set to return for next year, Michigan didn’t have many needs to address on the recruiting trail, but shoring up the interior is always a good thing. Wagner brings size and international playing experience to a young group of sophomore interior players at Michigan next year. Michigan was one of the worst rebounding teams nationally in 2014-2015, and Wagner has shown the ability to snag boards in international play.

A member of various youth national teams in Germany, Wagner is a key addition to Michigan. They should be in good shape to improve on this season’s record, provided Wagner can help with the other developing big men in the paint.
