Georgia Tech gets on the board with Sylvester Ogbonda

After missing on out center Tacko Fall earlier in the week when Fall picked Central Florida, Georgia Tech responded by snagging a verbal commitment from Sylvester Ogbonda, a big man from National Christian (MD) who announced his commitment via Twitter.

Ogbonda, originally from Nigeria, is the first member of the Yellow Jackets’ 2015 recruiting class and comes approximately two weeks before the early signing period starts. Ogbonda’s profile on indicates he held scholarship offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, and LaSalle, along with interest from several ACC schools.

With a trio of senior big men on the current roster in Robert Sampson, Demarco Cox and Nick Jacobs, Georgia Tech needed to add some young talent on the interior for the roster going forward. Ogbonda could come into a situation where the roster allows him to see time as a freshman as a rim protector, as Georgia Tech has two freshmen inside currently they need to develop.
