G’ Tech lands pure point guard Jose Alvarado

Georgia Tech added their potential point guard of the future on Thursday, as 6′-1″ prospect Jose Alvarado of Christ the King (NY) picked the Yellow Jackets over local programs Seton Hall and Rutgers.

Alvarado is the first pledge for new Georgia Tech head coach Josh Pastner, and comes at perhaps the biggest area of need for the Yellow Jackets.

Georgia Tech landing a point guard from New York City may evoke memories back to Kenny Anderson or Stephon Marbury, but Alvarado isn’t that kind of player, as he’s more of a steady hand at the point guard slot. Given the overall need for Georgia Tech to upgrade their roster for ACC competitiveness, that’s not a bad thing.

It’s going to take more than Alvarado, but he should be a solid building block as Pastner tries to rebuild at Georgia Tech.
