One of the premier scorers in the 2017 class nationally, 6′-5″ guard Gary Trent Jr., has five elite college basketball programs among his lists of finalists.
The son of former NBA player Gary Trent, Trent Jr. has trimmed his list to a veritable who’s who of programs in Arizona, Duke, Kentucky, Michigan State and UCLA.
A native of Minnesota, Trent Jr. recently announced a transfer to Findlay Prep (NV) to finish out high school. He was previously at Apple Valley (MN), the program that produced Tyus Jones. It should be noted that the last player to transfer from Minnesota to Findlay Prep, Rashad Vaughn, made the most of the move and his one season at UNLV.
Trent Jr. is arguably the top shooting guard nationally (and a top 10 player overall) and a potential one-and-done candidate, depending on how he develops at Findlay Prep this year, and his first year of college basketball.
In addition to his exploits in the United States, Trent Jr. was a key member of the 2015 U16 FIBA Americas and 2016 U17 FIBA World gold medal winning USA Basketball teams.
