COMMIT: JUCO PF Tyrone Haughton to Pittsbugh

The Pittsburgh Panthers landed the fourth member of their 2014 recruiting class on Wednesday, as 6′-9″ power forward Tyrone Haughton of Iowa Western CC (IA) announced his pledge. Haughton was originally headed to play for the South Carolina Gamecocks out of high school, prior to taking the junior college route.

Presently, Haughton is averaging 3 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks per game for a good Iowa Western CC team. As a freshman, Haughton broke the Iowa Western CC program single season records for blocked shots in a season, as well as blocked shots in a game. Haughton played for a loaded Dr. Krop (FL) squad in high school.

Haughton reportedly tripped to Pittsburgh last weekend. Given Pittsburgh’s expected dearth of interior players, it is conceivable that Haughton will compete to start next season at center. Haughton’s offensive game is generally limited to put backs, but he can rebound and block shots. Haughton can be a presence inside going forward for the Panthers.
