Newly hired head coach Bruce Pearl’s first recruit for the Auburn Tigers is a major one, power forward Cinmeon Bowers of Chipola JC. Considered one of the top junior college forwards in the nation, Bowers is the first recruit to cast his lot for Pearl’s program.
After a standout freshman season at Chipola, Bowers inked during the early signing period with Florida State. Off the court troubles led the Seminoles to release Bowers from his letter of intent, but he is still regarded as one of the top rebounders in junior college, after averaging 8.9 per game. He also posted 12.4 points per game during his sophomore season.
Given the relative mediocrity in the SEC, it should be interesting to see how quickly Pearl can have the Auburn hoops program relevant again. Bowers was realistically one of the best recruits on the board that Auburn could land, and they did so. The Tigers program is in a talent-rich region, one that Pearl showed the ability to harvest while at Tennessee.
