The UCLA Bruins landed a verbal commitment on Monday from touted Campbell Hall (CA) point guard Aaron Holiday, a junior. Holiday has strong ties to Westwood, as he is the younger brother of former Bruins lead guard Jrue Holiday and his sister Lauren currently plays for the Bruins women’s team.
Holiday is currently ranked No. 54 among juniors nationally by Hoopniks.com.
The Bruins now have two talented underclassmen point guard recruits. Holiday is a standout in the junior class, while sophomore Lonzo Ball of Chino Hills (CA) has also already pledged. Bell is a top-25 recruit nationally. Additionally, UCLA has Isaac Hamilton, a former McDonald’s All-American waiting in the wings to join next year’s team.
Holiday is having a banner scoring season, averaging better than 30 points per game for his squad. He is definitely a score first player right now, but has shown the ability to distribute, particularly on his AAU team, California Supreme. Holiday is always in attack mode on the offensive end of the floor, and uses his superb athleticism to create scoring opportunities.
On the defensive end of the floor, Holiday has shown elite ability. Although he’s undersized for the shooting guard position, Holiday’s ability to defend should really help UCLA going forward.
Since taking over the head coach position, Steve Alford has brought in a very good group of players to UCLA. The standards among Bruins boosters are extremely high, but there are signs that Alford and company will eventually meet them.
