COMMIT: 2014 PG Avery Johnson Jr. to Texas A&M

The Texas A&M Aggies added to their backcourt depth on Saturday, landing a verbal commitment from Avery Johnson Jr. of Plano West (TX). Johnson is the fourth guard in the Aggies’ 2014 recruiting class.

The son of a former NBA player and coach, Johnson Jr. played one season at Plano West, and was previously in the Houston area. He ran with the Texas Titans on the summer circuit, with Aggies signee Alex Robinson, a top-100 prospect.

Johnson Jr. was on an official visit to Texas A&M when he declared. He reportedly was also entertaining interest from Boston College, Maryland and Texas Tech. Plano West is expected to be one of the most loaded high school teams in 2014-2015, and certainly one that the Texas A&M staff will keep close tabs.
