Auburn adds to elite ’17 class with Chuma Okeke

The Bruce Pearl-era as head coach at Auburn has seen a steady upgrade in talent on the roster, though it hasn’t been without its hits and misses. The Tigers nabbed 6′-8″ power forward Chuma Okeke on Sunday night, giving Auburn a third top-50 prospect in the class, which is currently the most talented in the nation.

It’s certain that other schools will bypass Auburn, but they certainly have the ability to finish as a top-10 overall class nationally, with the brawny Okeke inside, his AAU teammate (on the Georgia Stars) Davion Mitchell at point guard, and USA Basketball U-17 gold medalist Austin Wiley at center.

Okeke reportedly had scholarship offers from other SEC programs, including Florida, LSU, Georgia, and Mississippi State, among other high-major tenders.

Given Auburn’s dearth of interior players, Wiley and Okeke should both see plenty of early minutes when they hit campus. Okeke acquitted himself well against top notch talent in the 2016 Nike EYBL, scoring 15 points per game and grabbing 9 rebounds.
