Alabama makes Key forward addition

Alabama’s new head coach Avery Johnson continued building his terrific first recruiting class on Wednesday, snaring a verbal commitment from top-75 prospect Braxton Key (formerly Blackwell) of Oak Hill Academy (VA).

Key, a 6′-7″ combo forward with great ball skills, joins top-15 prospect Terrance Ferguson, a 6′-7 wing, and 6′-5″ junior college forward Ar’Mond Davis in what is shaping up as a tremendous class. Added that trio to Memphis transfer Nick King, who is sitting out this season, and the Crimson Tide roster will see a serious talent infusion in 2016-2017.

Key formerly starred at Christ Presbyterian Academy (TN) before moving on to the basketball academy at Oak Hill Academy to close out high school. He had programs such as Texas, and Vanderbilt hot in pursuit after him.

The important thing about Key’s game is his overall skill level, and it’s clear he can add weight and strength to his 205 pound frame. In fact, Key likely projects to be a face up mismatch “4”, depending on how Alabama’s offense develops under Johnson.

Fans of Alabama hoops couldn’t have expected a better first class under Johnson, and will have the ability to be in the mix of the SEC if Johnson’s recruiting successes continue. The next priority is clearly to add some bulk in the paint.
