2015 Nike Hoop Summit game is loaded

Press Release

The 2015 Nike Hoop Summit will be played at 12 p.m. (PST) on Saturday, April 11 at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. The game will be televised on ESPN2. Elite center Caleb Swanigan of Homestead (IN) is expected to announce his college decision in conjunction with the game.

The Nike Hoop Summit is the country’s premier annual basketball game for U.S. high school senior boys and features the USA Basketball Junior National Select Team taking on a World Select Team comprised of elite international players who are 19 years old or younger.

“We are very excited for another thrilling and competitive edition of the Nike Hoop Summit in 2015,” said USA Basketball CEO/Executive Director Jim Tooley. “Watching the USA’s best, young talent against the top players from around the world not only makes for a great game, but it is a chance to see future college and NBA stars. Portland and the Moda Center have been an outstanding home for this game, and we look forward to a great atmosphere again this year.”

The USA Junior National Select Team will consist of 11 U.S. high school seniors, while the World Select Team will consist of 11 players 19 years old or younger from FIBA’s five geographic zones, including FIBA Africa, FIBA Americas, FIBA Asia, FIBA Europe and FIBA Oceania, with the approved sanctioning of FIBA, the governing body of international basketball.

USA Basketball teams have compiled a 12-5 overall advantage in the series, including an 84-73 win in 2014 that saw Justise Winslow (Duke ) lead the USA with 16 points. The World Select Team claimed back-to-back wins in 2012 and 2013, as well as victories in 1996, 1998 and 2009.

The Nike Hoop Summit has been held annually since 1995, with the exception of a three-year hiatus from 2001-2003. In 1998 (San Antonio, Texas), 1999 (Tampa, Fla.), 2000 (Indianapolis, Ind.) and 2004 (San Antonio), the game was played in the city hosting the men’s NCAA Final Four. From 2005-2007 the game was staged in Memphis, Tennessee. Since 2008, the Nike Hoop Summit has been played in Portland and while there has recorded the four largest crowds in the event’s 17-year history.

An incredible 165 former USA and World Select Team members have been drafted by NBA teams, including 14 players in the 2014 NBA Draft and 11 players in 2013. World Team alumni Andrew Wiggins went No. 1 in 2014, while another international player, Anthony Bennett, went No. 1 in 2013.
